Standard First Aid and CPR

The first aid course is a comprehensive two-day program designed for those who need training due to work requirements or for individuals who want to learn essential life support skills to better respond to emergencies at home. As required by regulation, our First Aid course covers cardiopulmonary resuscitation and the management of other breathing, airway and circulation emergencies, as well as the control of bleeding, treating shock, stabilizing fractures and dislocations, head and spine injuries, and more.

Standard First Aid Heartsaver®

Approximate Course Length: 16 hours

Certification valid for: 3 years**

The Standard First Aid Heartsaver® course is a comprehensive, two-day program designed to meet the needs of the workplace. This course covers key areas required by workplace regulators in most provinces, including:

  • Emergency Scene Management
  • Shock, Fainting and Unconsciousness
  • Bleeding and Wounds
  • Asthma and Allergies
  • Head, Spinal and Pelvic Injuries
  • Diabetic Emergencies
  • Seizures
  • Respiratory and Cardiovascular Emergencies
  • Burns
  • Child/Infant CPR and Choking
  • Secondary Survey
  • Bone, Joint and Muscle injury
  • Poisoning
  • Eye Injuries
  • Chest injuries
  • Environmental Illness & Injuries
  • Lifts and Carries
  • Multiple Casualty Management

**Annual CPR Renewal is recommended, as the CPR certification is registered with the Foundation for 1 year.**

For employees that perform healthcare functions or are regulated healthcare professionals our Standard First Aid BLS Provider course is preferred.

Standard First Aid BLS Provider

Approximate Course Length: 18 hours

Certification Length: 3 years**

The Standard First Aid BLS Provider course encompasses the full content of the Standard First Aid course and the additional course content of Heart and Stroke Foundation’s Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider Course. The addition of our BLS Provider course ensures that healthcare professionals and providers of varying disciplines know how to recognize, and stabilize ill or injured persons with a number of life-threatening emergencies, provide CPR, use an AED and relieve choking in a safe, timely and effective manner.

**Annual CPR Renewal is recommended, as the CPR certification is registered with the Foundation for 1 year.**

Standard First Aid Recertification/Renewal Course

Coming in April 2017. Individuals are only able to take a renewal class once every alternating renewal year. Students must complete the renewal course prior to the expiration of their current HSF Standard First Aid certification.
